WHAT IS NEUROFUNCTIONAL ACUPUNCTURE

Neurofunctional Acupuncture treatment is a precise peripheral nerve stimulation technique. Very fine acupuncture needles are inserted into neurofunctional sites around the body and can be stimulated with electricity. This helps regulate the abnormal activity of different body systems such as the nervous and endocrine systems as well as regulating pain syndromes. Neurofunctional acupuncture is a unique form of acupuncture, as your practitioner will use their knowledge of neuroanatomy to insert the needles in specific sites to treat your injury.

The hamstrings are so important. And often weak and tight.

In this video, Mat is treating one of the four hamstring muscles in the leg – the long head of the biceps femoris. The reason this muscle is so important is that it attaches the pelvis down to the lower leg at the head of the fibula, which is a very important joint in the body. This system is also going to have an influence down to the ankle via the fibula and its related muscles. Essentially this joint connects the pelvis, knee, and ankle!

When we simulate this area, you can see in the video that we are getting rotation all the way down into the lower leg.

Treatment of this area helps with:

– ankle and foot problems

– knee problems

– hip problems

– improved blood flow

– improve mobility with most sports that involve running and walking

    Neurofunctional Acupuncture Mississauga FAQs

We begin with a detailed movement and symptom assessment to understand how your body is functioning. Based on how your nervous system and muscles interact, we determine whether this approach fits your needs or if it should be combined with other therapies for a more complete plan.
During your session, we focus on specific areas linked to your symptoms. You may feel muscle activation, subtle twitching, or a dull sensation. These responses help us confirm we are targeting the right structures and adjusting treatment based on how your body reacts.
The number of sessions depends on how long your issue has been present and how your body responds early on. Some people notice changes quickly, while others benefit from a series of visits. We continuously reassess progress and adjust the plan to match your recovery pace.
Absolutely! We often integrate it with hands-on therapy, movement-based rehab, and corrective exercises. Combining approaches allows us to address different contributing factors at once, helping improve coordination, strength, and overall function rather than focusing on a single area alone.
After your session, we may suggest simple movements, hydration, or light activity to support your body’s response. It’s important to pay attention to how you feel in the following days, as this feedback helps us refine future sessions and guide your progress effectively.
