WHAT IS NKT?

NeuroKinetic Therapy® corrective movement system is a sophisticated bodywork modality that can be used as both an assessment and rehabilitative technique for low back pain, neck pain, carpal tunnel, and other injuries.

A good example is a baby learning to stand.

Through many attempts and failures the baby finally achieves success. But how?

The Motor Control Center chooses the most successful attempts until standing happens without “thinking” about it. Conversely, after an injury, the Motor Control Center adapts to a compensation pattern and holds that in its memory forever unless it is convinced to change. A good example is a whiplash accident in which the posterior neck muscles brace for the anterior neck muscles. This pattern can endure forever unless there is some intervention.

When a NeuroKinetic Therapy® corrective movement system practitioner tests the weak anterior neck muscles, they fail thus opening the MCC to new learning.

After the balance is restored, the MCC is “reprogrammed” and recognizes the anterior neck muscles. To complete the reprogramming, specific rehab exercises are assigned to “burn in” the new functional pattern.

How Effective Is Neurokinetic Therapy?

NeuroKinetic Therapy (NKT) is a highly effective corrective movement system that can be used to assess and rehabilitate various injuries, including low back pain, neck pain, carpal tunnel, and more. NKT has been proven to be an effective treatment for these conditions due to its ability to reprogram the Motor Control Center (MCC). By testing weak muscles and restoring balance, the MCC is reprogrammed to recognize the muscles and exercises are assigned to “burn in” the new functional pattern.

What Conditions Can Neurokinetic Therapy Treat?

NeuroKinetic Therapy (NKT) can be used to assess and rehabilitate various injuries, including low back pain, neck pain, carpal tunnel, and more. NKT has been proven to be an effective treatment for these conditions due to its ability to reprogram the Motor Control Center (MCC). By testing weak muscles and restoring balance, the MCC is reprogrammed to recognize the muscles and exercises are assigned to “burn in” the new functional pattern.

What Are the Benefits of Neurokinetic Therapy?

The benefits of NeuroKinetic Therapy (NKT) include improved mobility, increased strength and flexibility, reduced pain, and improved posture. NKT is a corrective movement system that can be used to assess and rehabilitate various injuries, including low back pain, neck pain, carpal tunnel, and more. By testing weak muscles and restoring balance, the MCC is reprogrammed to recognize the muscles and exercises are assigned to “burn in” the new functional pattern. This helps to improve mobility, reduce pain, and improve posture.

What Is the Meaning of Neurokinetic?

Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) is a corrective movement system that uses muscle testing to assess and rehabilitate various injuries. The term “neurokinetic” refers to the relationship between the nervous system and muscles, as well as how they interact with each other. NKT works by testing weak muscles and restoring balance in order to reprogram the Motor Control Center (MCC ). By doing this, the MCC is reprogrammed to recognize the muscles and exercises are assigned to “burn in” the new functional pattern.

    Neurokinetic Therapy Mississauga FAQs

A typical Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) session at our clinic runs between 30–60 minutes. During that time, we assess movement patterns, identify imbalances through muscle testing, and guide you through movement retraining or corrective exercises to reinforce healthier patterns.
For your session, wear comfortable, loose clothing that lets you move freely. This makes it easier to perform the movement assessments and any corrective exercises we may guide you through, without restricting your range of motion.
Yes — by identifying which muscles are overactive and which are underactive you’re able to address the movement relationships that contribute to ongoing tension or tightness. This approach looks beyond local discomfort to how movement patterns across the body are functioning together.
Often we’ll show you movement drills or corrective tasks to practise on your own. These help reinforce the improved movement patterns your body learns during sessions so that changes become more durable over time and fit better with your daily activities.
Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) can be adapted for people of different ages and activity backgrounds. During your initial assessment, we consider your movement history, abilities, and goals to ensure the session plan matches your comfort level and supports progress in ways that fit your lifestyle.
