What is a chiropractic adjustment?
You are having a little bit of pain, and you want to see a chiropractor. You’ve mainly heard they “crack” your bones – but what really are they doing?
These “cracks” that are so popular, especially on the internet, are caused by a treatment method called an adjustment.
During an adjustment, a chiropractor, who is a trained specialist in manipulation, will apply a fast, controlled force to the joint being adjusted. The most commonly known adjustments are spinal adjustments, however an adjustment can really be done to any joint, anywhere in the body.
What is that popping sound?
The cracking sound you actually hear during an adjustment is the formation of gas bubbles between the joints. This formation occurs from the joint tissues being stretched out during a chiropractic adjustment.
What are the benefits of an adjustment?
There are many benefits of chiropractic adjustments, or manipulation, some of them include:
- More movement through the joint which may be stiff and tight
- Decreased pain
- Decrease muscle tension
- Improved athletic performance
- Better quality of life, overall!
Contact one of our chiropractors today if you have any further questions, or if you believe you would benefit from chiropractic care.
