Melanie is a Registered Pharmacist and ADAPT-Trained Functional Medicine Practitioner. Her interest in integrative medicine began after her father was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. This diagnosis motivated Melanie to begin looking beyond conventional medicine for answers. She sought an approach to health that would give insight into and address the root cause of disease rather than merely treat the symptoms. Melanie found this and more in functional medicine, and with its applicability to so many medical conditions, she hopes to empower others to restore health and optimal function to their bodies.
Melanie earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo. In 2015 she completed an inpatient hospital residency at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre with rotations in infectious disease, cardiac intensive care, neonatal intensive care, oncology, and general medicine. Her residency research on bloodstream infections in neonates was published in the journal BMC Pediatrics in 2019. After residency, Melanie worked as a Clinical Pharmacist in malignant hematology at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre for over 4 years, and then transitioned into orthopedics at Trillium Hospital for a short time before opting to continue her education in functional medicine.
